Westhill Invitational May 2009 - Squad 2 Report

Sorry for the delay in the gala report.  Sometimes the wait is worthwhile, because the Squad Two swimmers yet again acquitted themselves well and produced some fantastic swims. We had some 22 P.B’s from 6 swimmers who took part in 33 races over the course of the weekend.

Some of the times posted even took the swimmer’s who swam them by surprise. But there should be no surprise; good times simply come from putting in the effort whilst at training and making sure you take as much from each session as possible.

Although no one in the squad medalled, this was probably a textbook gala, for most of the Squad Two swimmers. As most were the younger ones in their respective age groups, so they were able to concentrate solely on performance and  the technical aspects of their swims, without the added pressure of expectation, which can carry its own problems.

I hope the overall lesson taken from this gala by our swimmers, is that you must concentrate on your swim, forget about rankings, etc, and put all your focus into what YOU are going to do in the water.

The swimmers proved that when they do this the results follow, with surprising results. Some of the times posted were simply fantastic, and should give the swimmers lots of confidence as we head to Dundee next month, on Sunday the 7th of June.

Keep up the hard work in training.

"Many men fail because they quit too soon. They lose faith when the signs are against them. They do not have the courage to hold on, to keep fighting in spite of that which seems insurmountable. If more of us would strike out and attempt the 'impossible,' we very soon would find the truth of that old saying that nothing is impossible... abolish fear and you can accomplish anything you wish.”
