Westhill Swimmers Golden Weekend in Inverness - March 2007
Westhill District Swim Team competed at the North District Age Group Swimming Championships at the Aquadome in Inverness on 3 and 4 March and enjoyed praiseworthy performances in both the individual and team events. With every member of the travelling squad setting their sights on achieving their own personal goals, the poolside atmosphere was excellent throughout the weekend.
The most tangible medal successes in the water came from all three Age Groups with the hugely talented and experienced Chris Chasser winning an incredible 8 straight Golds, the emerging James Yule, who took an equally impressive 9 medals home including 6 Golds and, not to be outdone by the boys, a great performance by Jenny Sangster who chipped in with a 7 medal haul plus the award of the “Jean Muir Memorial Trophy” for best swimmer in the 13/14 Age Group.
With Michael Caldwell earning much plaudits for his Silver success in the gruelling 1500m freestyle and Laura Murchie's Bronze in the 100 breaststroke, there was plenty to keep the Westhill entourage entertained, particularly in the exciting 4 x 100m I.M and Freestyle Relays where Westhill's 13 and under Boys took Bronze in both events whilst the girls won Bronze in the IM.
In the14 and over age group it was medals all the way with the girls taking Silver and Bronze respectively and the boys proving themselves unbeatable with impressive Golds’ in both events.
Although these medal successes are commendable achievements, Head Coach Jim Cameron will have been equally as pleased to see most swimmers in the squad achieve their own personal targets set in their quest for continuous improvement.
