Annual Westhill Minnows Meet
On Saturday 17 September the 10th annual Minnows Meet took place at Westhill Pool.
This Meet is aimed at our younger swimmers aged 9 to 11 years. We set the entry times at a certain level in order to provide a good quality meet which encourages the young inexperienced swimmers. For many this was their first opportunity to take part in competitive swimming . Our club did not enter our more experienced swimmers to keep in the spirit of the meet's aim to bring on the younger group.
At the 3rd Minnows meet a young swimmer took part for the first time, swimming for Upper Deeside. That swimmer was Kerry Buchan who now has selection times for next year's Commonwealth Games to swim for Scotland! Who knows where this, the first competition for many, may take the swimmers in the future!
The individual events were 50m for all strokes with the frontcrawl and medley relays 4 x 25m.
Medals were awarded for 1st 2nd and 3rd places and ribbons for 4th 5th and 6th places in each age group and each stroke. Points were awarded: 1st - 6 points, 2nd - 5 points and so on to 6th - 1 point.
Lots of personal best times tumbled as Westhill swimmers won a clutch of individual medals and also achieved bronze in the boys 4 x 25metres freestyle relay event and silver in the girls 4 x 25metres medley relay event.
