Westhill Medal Winners at North District Open

The North District Open Swimming Championships, held over two days at Westhill Swimming Pool, was one of the most exciting in years with several records broken and one memorable and outstanding individual performance.
For the host club Westhill there were some tremendous performances and personal bests and with 14 medals in both final sessions split between five swimmers, it was a successful weekend’s work for the club. Christopher Chasser was the top performer for Westhill with 6 medals including golds in the 200m IM (2.11.13) and 200m butterfly (2.08.58), silvers in the 400m IM, 200m freestyle and 800m freestyle and bronze in the 200 backstroke. Kevin Murison and Ewan McKenzie both took golds in the 200m backstroke (2.06.20) and 200m butterfly (2.12.43) respectively, with Kevin also claiming 3 bronze medals and Ewan another silver. Coreen Beange took bronze in the distance endurance 1500m freestyle and Laura Murchie won silver in the 100m breaststroke.
There was no doubt about the overall outstanding performer over the weekend. Hannah Miley from Garioch almost swept the board in terms of victories and new records, taking her gold medal haul into double figures and setting 9 new North District Open Championship records, 6 Age Group records, 2 Scottish Junior records and the most impressive of all, a Scottish Senior record in the 200m IM in a time of 2.16.16.
Kerry Buchan of Upper Deeside also became an Open record-holder in the 200m Breaststroke (2.33.23).
