OUTSTANDING TEAM SUCCESS FOR WESTHILL
SWIMMERS AT INVITATIONAL
With swim clubs from as far apart as Thurso and Dundee, plus all else in between, descending on Westhill last weekend, the13th Westhill Invitational Swim Meet proved luckier for the host club than that superstitious number can sometimes prove, with outstanding individual performances leading to comfortable victory in the Team Event against the North East of Scotland’s top swim talent. Obviously, this success for Westhill District Amateur Swim Club was primarily attributable to the high number of medal positions gained throughout the two-day event but was further enhanced by various contributions from other Westhill squad swimmer’s, whose ability to feature in Finals contributed significantly to this collective achievement.
Leading performers who consistently produced the goods when it mattered were Chris Chasser (18), who left the arena with 10 Golds, 3 Silvers and a thoroughly deserved “Best Swimmer” Award, Michael Caldwell (15) who enjoyed his best performance to date with 4 Golds, 1 Silver and 2 Bronze, Jenny Sangster (13), who dominated her age group winning 3 Golds and 3 Silvers and in the same age group, James Yule (13) who managed 2 Golds, 2 Silvers and a Bronze. In a tough older age group, Craig Thomson (16) battled his way to 4 Bronze medals whilst Jeanna Gordon (14) took 2 bronze and Laura Murchie (17) 1 bronze. As mentioned above, further to these 38 medal successes, personal best times led to a clutch of other commendable Final performances, which ensured the Best Team Award was collected on behalf of the squad by two of the Club’s more experienced long time members, Coreen Beange and Graeme MacGregor.
